Girls, Inc. of Huntsville have added the Alabama Renegades Women's Full Contact Football Team to their celebration of National Girls and Women in Sport Day (NGWSD) on February 6.
Established in 1986 by joint resolution of Congress, NGWSD was created to acknowledge the achievements of women in sports and fitness and highlight the importance of sports and fitness for girls and women of all ages. The February 6 2008 celebration will be a day to commemorate the accomplishments of female athletes and to highlight how participation in sports has helped them play fair both on and off the field.
The Renegades will be teaching football basics and will also speak about empowerment. Other sports highlighted are soccer and basketball.
Girls Incorporated is a national nonprofit youth organization dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. With roots dating to 1864, Girls Inc has provided vital educational programs to millions of American girls, particularly those in high-risk, underserved areas. Today, innovative programs help girls confront subtle societal messages about their value and potential, and prepare them to lead successful, independent, and fulfilling lives.
